First Plant-Based Burger King is Coming This Summer: What We Know

The first completely plant-based Burger King will make its heavily anticipated debut this summer in Germany. The fast-food chain has acted as a pioneer for plant-based menu items across the world, and now the brand is taking its dedication to plant-based service to another level. The first plant-based Burger King will launch in Cologne, Germany for a limited time, working with Dutch plant-based meat company The Vegetarian Butcher to release the fully vegan menu. The vegan Burger King is slated to open just four days, from June 7th until June 11th, hoping to cater to all Burger King and fast-food fans. The menu is expected to include the chain’s signature alternative meats from plant-based nuggets to the Whopper. The soy-based nuggets which are now fried in a separate fryer used for plant-based products are offered with vegan dipping sauces. German customers can also order the Rebel Whopper at Burger King, which features a plant-based patty also made by The Vegetarian Butcher.

Burger King UK Menu To Be 50 Percent Plant-Based by 2031

Shares By 2031, the menu at Burger King locations in the United Kingdom could be 50 percent plant-based. In an interview with British morning newspaper inews, Burger King UK CEO Alasdair Murdoch explained that the addition of plant-based items on the chain’s menu displaces other options made and within the next decade, this could result in a Burger King menu with 50 percent fewer animal products. “When we bring in a plant-based product … there is probably an equal and opposite reaction where we are taking something else off,” Murdoch said. “Are there going to be less meat products? Ultimately, you would say yes. Over time the amount of beef that we are selling as a proportion of our total sales is reducing.”
