McNeese Opens Conference Play With 1-0 Win Over UCA McNeese Softball beats Central Arkansas 1-0 By McNeese Sports Information | March 12, 2021 at 11:37 PM CST - Updated March 12 at 11:37 PM LAKE CHARLES McNeese softball took advantage of an error and got a clutch two-out single from Chloe Gomez in the sixth inning to begin Southland Conference play with a 1-0 win over Central Arkansas (12-9, 0-1 SLC) here Friday night. Both teams will meet again Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. to conclude the series. The game was a pitchers duel between McNeese’s Whitney Tate and UCA’s Kayla Beaver the whole night with both pitchers throwing complete games. Both pitchers were back up by solid defenses who made big plays and catches throughout the game.

McNeese (7-12) was led at the plate by Cori McCrary who was 4 of 6 with a double, three stolen bases, and a .667 batting average on the day. The Cowgirls also got extra base hits from Caleigh Cross, Haylee Brinlee and Gracie Devall.
