WHITNEY POINT (WBNG) The Whitney Point Central School District unveiled a $27.7 Million capital project Monday. The project includes upgrades to both classroom and athletic space and will be up for a vote next month.
Whitney Point Superintendent Dr. Patricia Follette says the district is excited to bring students and the community several upgrades they ve been looking into for years, and they created a plan to do it which doesn t include an increase to the tax levy. We are always looking to the future, she said. We want our students to be ready for the future and I think this project will help to support students now and students in the future.
A new leader will take the helm of the Whitney Point Central School District this summer.
The district s board of education voted unanimously Tuesday to appoint Jo-Ann Sexton as its new superintendent, starting July 1.
Sexton will replace Patricia Follette, who is retiring June 30 after a 33-year career in education, including the past nine years as superintendent.
Sexton, who earned her bachelor s degree from Binghamton University and a master s degree from Oneonta College, and is currently completing her doctoral degree at Binghamton University, started with the Whitney Point district as a school counselor in 1989.
After 17 years as a counselor, Sexton served as an assistant principal and director of special services before becoming assistant superintendent nine years ago.
