Over the course of this summer, I’ll be plotting out and exploring some day trips that can be made in the southwest Missouri area.
One of the things I learned shortly after moving to Missouri in March was that in addition to being called the Show Me State, it’s also known as the Cave State.
To that end, over the weekend I checked out to caves in the area in Bridal Cave in Camdenton and Bluff Dwellers Cave in Noel. It’s a great, family friendly day trip on these hot summer days that is educational as well as a nice break from the heat.

For the latest installment of the Day Trippin series, I went a little bit off the beaten path to find my next adventure.
I have to give credit to Reddit user u/benstonevideos for posting some great pictures of his adventures on a subreddit that I follow. In the comments of one of his posts, he mentioned that the Lost Valley Trail in Arkansas as one of his favorite hikes in the Ozarks and that was enough for me.
Unlike last week, when I meant to go to Devils Canyon Scenic Area Trail & Bushwhack and ended up exploring White Rock Mountain, I made sure to double check the directions this time. Apple Maps failed me once again, so I reached out to Ben Stone and he let me know that Google Maps led him straight to the trailhead for Lost Valley.
Motorcyle Memories exhibit coincides with Steel Horse Rally

To coincide with the 2021 Steel Horse Rally, the Fort Smith Museum of History will display “Motorcycle Memories,” an exhibition designed to explore the motorcycle culture of our local and regional areas. The exhibit will be in place through May 31 at the Fort Smith Museum of History, 320 Rogers Ave.
The exhibition, which was first presented in 2008, features vintage motorcycles and photographs exploring the “art of the motorcycle” in Fort Smith and the region from the 1940s through the present day. Fort Smith has a historical association with motorcycle culture. Learn about the people and places that put the region on the map for motorcyclists.
