On May 5, 2020, the White House Council of Economic Advisers posted a chart showing deaths from COVID‑19 in the U.S. up to that time, together with several potential “curves” that roughly fit the data so far. To better visualize observed data, we also continually update a curve-fitting exercise to summarize COVID-19 s observed trajectory. Particularly with irregular data, curve fitting can improve data visualization.
