More now from the iraqi capital. Its pretty clear from the events yesterday and also today that it was the Popular Mobilisation forces and their leadership who were calling the shots what is difficult to say is how much support these events had from the Iraqi Government of course in the Public Domain we heard statements from Prime Minister condemning the attack on the u. S. Embassy in asking for those crowds to leave but its difficult to say whether that is the actual stance of the government or whether this is just an official statement to appease for example the United States presence here or whether this is actually something that the government really believes in because from what we saw on the ground was Iraqi Security forces standing down letting these crowds of members and supporters of Popular Mobilisation forces pass right through the checkpoints and enter the fortified green zone and attack the u. Free speech is the prerogative of the press. It protects the free speech writes of all american, not just those who so happen to have a name in journalism. The press, in other words, is itself subject to free speech just like everyone else is. Journalist, however, do not take well to criticism and i say this as a recovering journalist myself. There is a tendency in the media to equate criticism of the press, however well founded with an attack on the freedom of the press itself, but i think you can be committed to free speech while attacking those who abuse it. Whats more, the freedom of the press like all freedoms is not without limits. There are no prior restraints on publication. Those days are thankfully, long behind us, but the press is responsible for what it says especially if it defames an individual. Libel laws are also an integral part of a free society. Program guide or at cspan. Org history. Im honored to moderate this panel of Accomplished Women have each played significant rolls in the commemoration of womens Suffrage Centennial in 2020. My name is colleen and i served as the vice chair of the womens Suffrage Centennial commission which was a commission created by Congress Shall coordinate and organize the activities of the centennial year. Of course, like everyone in our commission had to deal the curveball due to the pandemic. In march of 2020 the commission and its excellent staff had to switch course and change activities and made a conscious shift to legacy projects. What i mean by legacy projects are historical markers, statues, monuments or installations that would have permanency beyond 2020 but i truly think the strategic was beneficial for the longterm. Highlights of the commission include providing Additional Support for the turning point memorial in virginia now completed and located near the site of the former prison.
