of electric vehicles. but it s coming at a steep cost to white collar workers. thousands have reportedly been laid off since gretchen whitmer took office. our next guest writes, quote, her actions are helping to kill the very auto jobs she claims to care so much about. joining us now, managing editor of michigan capital confidential james david dixon. james, welcome to fox & friends. so explain these layoffs, because they were given, what, $100 million subsidy to hire blue collar workers, but now white collar workers are getting laid off almost in the exact same number. absolutely, good morning. i call it the okey-doke, right? in june michigan lawmakers decide to give ford $100 million. they re going to create 3030 auto jobs. those are blue collar, factory jobs. two months later, ford announces it s laying off 3,000 white collar workers, mostly in
bit uncomfortable, but your thoughts on, would it be helpful? laura mentioned something that i have noticed as a journalist, you know, i often interview workers about what they do, and their working conditions, and i have found that norms are very different. blue-collar workers are often much more willing to tell me how much they make. i can ask them the question, it s, it s not an awkward question. i talked with professional workers, white-collar workers, people who ve made much higher salaries, very touchy subject, people don t want to get into it. it s almost like asking, you know, a lady her age or something, you know? it s just like a faux pas, you don t ask about it. i will say that there are a number of resources that don t require the awkward conversation that can help workers get more informed about whether they re making a fair wage, you know, there s, like, glass door and pay scale and other websites where people submit anonymous data. so you can look up, what does someone
somebody about money or what they were making we would get the taste slapped out of our mouth. we didn t talk about politics then either. i come from a family of democrats. they re not all democrats now, thank god. oh lord. but this is not, you don t ask people about this and i ve kind of carried that forward. i know we all shift and now everybody knows everything about everybody. but i still carry that with me. it s a delicate topic no doubt it s a delicate topic. you can see it s a little bit up comfortable. but uncomfortable. but would you be willing to answer the question. i talked with professional workers, white
front by force, by threat of imprisonment. it was trying to shame men into leaving the country saying how you can abandon your motherland, why don t you want to defend your state and your president. so i think there is concern, and i think this is part of the big gamble that this mobilization was for president putin. and still having to capitulate even on trying to draft white collar workers. there seems to be some success at least for now that they can stay behind. ahead here on cnn for us, a new poll shows nearly half of democrats and democratic leaning independents want to nominate someone other than joe biden for president in 2024. we ll have a closer look at that
