when you have these pro-putin leaders taking over entire countries, what does that even for us? la pen is the example of how a putin-aligned, white christian nationalist leader, who lost, can come back, and can come back maybe better and stronger. she lost to macron a few years ago. they are now squaring off again. she has pedalled back, but let s be clear, all of her policies are still the same. she s also using the language of inflation and rising gas prices to hurt the incumbent president, all of this is the familiar talk we re hearing with the gop and biden here in the united states. la pen winning there is not only a win for white christian nationalists who onlygn of how can change its tone a little bit

The Atlantic Daily: America Isn’t Split in Half. It’s Divided Into Four.
The country has fragmented into four groups, our writer argues, each informed by a distinct narrative about the nation’s moral identity.

To understand America, you must first assemble the pieces. In the latest issue of our magazine, my colleague George Packer argues that the country has fragmented into four groups, each informed by a distinct narrative about the nation’s moral identity. These narratives “overlap, morph into one another, attract and repel one another.”
Breitbart also did stories on the protest, as well as a handful of small outlets. That was pretty much it.
Where were the major media outlets in Ohio? Where was the
Associated Press? Where were the cable TV news stories?
When a Nazi-like event takes place in 2021, and the media respond with a yawn, it means either they don t care what happens to Catholics or they find it vaguely amusing. That would be the generous view.
A less generous interpretation would be that they think the church-busting was deserved. The media are on a roll demonizing what they call White Christian Nationalists, an ill-defined group of people who are allegedly seeking to take command of America. So when fascists crash a Catholic Mass especially one that honors pro-life Catholics it is hard for the media to get worked up about it.

And Washington, D.C., looms large in their struggle.

“Leave all snacks on the bus!” our guide shouted over the intercom as we readied ourselves to go through security at the U.S. Capitol a few years ago.
“What about my gun?” a man in the back called out, prompting laughter from us all.
That he had brought his gun wasn’t surprising. I was with a busload of white conservative Christians who had come to D.C. from all over the country to learn a Christian nationalist interpretation of the history of the United States. They loved the Second Amendment almost as much as the First. The man reluctantly disarmed and disembarked with the rest of us, and we began the trek up Capitol Hill. What followed was a series of indignities that made most of the group long for the pre-9/11 days when visitors could simply walk into the Capitol and wander the halls of power at will. This was, after all, their house.
