The Court of Appeal for Ontario has granted leave for South Bruce Peninsula to appeal its two convictions of damaging endangered piping plover habitat.

The little shorebirds at Sauble Beach have been in the midst of a row between the town and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, which brought the charges under the Endangered Species Act.
Before the birds’ annual arrival, the town in April 2017 mechanically raked the beach, then performed more extensive beach maintenance involving a bulldozer and removing plants in August 2017, after the birds left.
