pope francis is scheduled to land right here in new york city this afternoon. he will head to the iconic st. patrick s cathedral where he will hold prayers this evening. archbishop dolan talked about his first time hosting a pope and the excitement surrounding the visit. that s what it s about. that s going to be exhilarating for me. almost like holy father, welcome into our home and here s my family. that s going to be exciting. i have to say, i have been fatigued, i have been so immersed in the details that up until yesterday, i didn t have that sense of enthusiasm but yesterday, matt, i walked around the cathedral, i walked inside and out, and i met all the people. their excitement is contagious. now they got me on a high. let s check out the scene in manhattan right now. nbc s ron mott is standing by for us there along fifth avenue. is there a sense of anticipation in the streets yet? reporter: oh, it s in the
mess itly that china was behind it and china denies any involvement. still there s real concern around this issue. the u.s. was considering imposing sanctions on china ahead of president xi s arrival. they decided not to do that, and it is thought that one of the reasons is they re hoping to get a deal on cyber security. i asked white house press secretary josh earnest about this. take a listen to what he had to say. there s no agreement that i m prepared to talk about at this point. but we have made clear to the chinese both publicly and privately that issues related to cyber security and our concerns with china s conduct in cyber space will feature prominently on the agenda. so josh being very careful there in his language. we will be watching very closely to see if there s any indication of a deal coming together. the visit kicks off tonight, craig. president obama will have an
of canterbury meet often and they speak of our churches being sister churches. episcopalians are very happy with this visit, especially to hear the pope speak about climate change, gun control, these are issues close to the heart of roman catholics and anglicans. a visit that has produced many spiritual fruits and hopefully entered the hearts of some of the legislators that need to hear the message. how have you seen the roman catholic church, how have you seen it evolve since francis was appointed? and beyond that, perhaps the effect on christianity as a whole? i think that what you are talking about is right on target. we talk about a reformer pope, but i think most of us have yet to see real concrete reforms. what we do see is a change of tone, a change of emphasis whereas in the last 30, 40 years the church was perceived as very
