Council s spend on roads not matched by central funding

While Wexford County Council puts more of its own resources into maintaining roads than any other county, despite previous assurances the Department are still not providing the Model County with any more funding than any other county. Cllr Fionntán Ó Súilleabháin raised the issue noting that Wexford and Donegal have the highest rate of country roads needing reconstruction in the country . He recalled an undertaking from the Department of Transport that if the local authority increased their own budget spend on roads, it would be looked upon favourably in terms of roads grants going forward. Director of Services Eamonn Hore said that this had been the case, but unfortunately there was no allowances being made by the Department despite Wexford using a higher percentage of funding on roads than any other county. For the coming year, the council has budgeted €2,911,442 for the maintenance and improvement of regional roads and €24,235,995 for local road maintenance and improve
