The National Park Service announced Thursday that Pamela A. Smith has been chosen as the next chief of the U.S. Park Police, becoming the first Black woman to lead the 560-officer police force that protects public parks across the country and has a large presence in the District.
As one of her first actions when she takes the helm of the force later this week, the 23-year veteran of the Park Police says she will start outfitting all officers with body-worn cameras over the course of the year.

About 30 people have been charged for allegedly exchanging NEM cryptocurrency for other digital currencies while knowing the assets had been stolen, investigative sources said Thursday.
Some ¥58 billion worth of digital money NEM was stolen from its operator Coincheck Inc. in January 2018. Following the massive theft, an underground exchange emerged for swapping NEM for other digital currencies on the dark web, and the suspects are found to have been involved in trading at the online exchange, the sources said.

About 30 people in Japan have been charged for allegedly exchanging NEM cryptocurrency for other digital currencies while knowing the assets had been stolen, investigative sources said Thursday.
