Don t click that link: Scammers are targeting Fifth Third Bank customers
Scammers are targeting Fifth Third Bank customers with a text message scam.
The text reads Fifth Third Bank: We locked your debit card to prevent unauthorized payment. To unlock it confirm your identity and includes a link.
There are some red flags about the text: spacing issues and the link doesn t mention Fifth Third Bank.
According to the Federal Trade Commission, scammers will send fake text messages to trick you into giving them your personal information – things like your password, account number, or Social Security number. If they get that information, they could gain access to your email, bank, or other accounts. Or they could sell your information to other scammers, the FTC said. Some links may take you to a spoofed website that looks real but isn’t. If you log in, the scammers can then steal your user name and password.
