The U.S. map is apparently full of baby name inspiration.
Parents draw baby name inspiration from a variety of sources ― family history, pop culture, literature and even food. For many, geography offers meaningful ideas.
But American parents aren’t just turning to glamorous international locales like Paris and London for baby name fodder. Many of them are sticking closer to home and picking the names of U.S. states and capital cities.
States such as Alabama, Alaska, Missouri and Utah have found new life in the form of baby names, according to the Social Security Administration. We scoured the latest SSA data ― which includes names given to five or more babies born in 2019 ― to identify which of the 50 states and capital cities have made the leap from maps to birth certificates.

The Packers took a stumbling offensive step closer to securing the number one seed in the NFC with a harder than it should have been 24-16 victory over the Carolina Panthers Saturday night at Lambeau Field. After scoring touchdowns on each of their first three possessions in the first half for a 21-3 lead, the offense mustered only 49 total yards after intermission adding a 51 yard Mason Crosby field goal and getting timely help from the defense to thwart a Panther comeback in moving their record to 11-3 and still in control of a first round playoff bye.

The Carolina Panthers were all but eliminated from playoff contention after losing to the Denver Broncos on Sunday.
However, Carolina will not withhold some of its injured stars for the remainder of the year.
Panthers wide receiver DJ Moore is expected to come off the reserve/COVID-19 list in time for Saturday’s game.
Carolina could just as easily be at 6-7 had a few things gone differently in recent weeks.
The Panthers lost to the Minnesota Vikings by just one point in Week 12 after Minnesota scored a go-ahead touchdown with under a minute to go and placekicker Joey Slye’s 54-yard game-winning field goal try was no good.
