The Alaska-Class Battlecruiser War Not Quite a Battleship

Even worse, these ships essentially arrived in time to meet a threat that no longer existed. While Alaska wasn’t even a state at the time, the United States Navy developed a new class of warship named in honor of the then-territory. All six of the subsequently planned vessels were to be named after territories or insular areas of the United States and the reason was somewhat fitting in that these weren’t battleships nor were the ships actually cruisers. Dunleavy will not order extension of COVID-19 disaster declaration, opts to implement transition plan

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Governor Dunleavy is opting against extending the state s COVID-19 disaster declaration despite calls from lawmakers to do so for another 30 days. Instead, the Governor conducted a news conference Sunday afternoon to outline a transition plan that Dunleavy says begins the process of moving Alaska to the path of normalcy while still effectively managing the virus. The Governor issued a directive that calls on state government to continue following all policies that were in place under the disaster declaration that expired Sunday. In the meantime, commissioners will advise the governor on which policies are necessary to keep in place and which items can lapse.
