but no real evidence they are doing anything serious as far as going after wikileaks. all right. i want to give you a chance to respo respond. what are you doing about this? well, obviously, the wikileaks document dump was a terrible breach, and, you know, if we can t conduct our diplomatic business without classified and secret documents being trafficked on the internet, it is extraordinarily crippling to our efforts. and we are take every step that we can possibly take to not only to go forward to ensure that it does not happen again, and if representative king does not believe that we have a sense of urgency about that, then he has not spoken to the people i have spoken to in the building behind me and around this government in the last five days. he wants the president to declare that wikileaks is a foreign terrorist organization,
welcome to cnn, and thanks for joining us. well, wolf, just to clarify, i didn t look silly, i was king arthur. and you did look well, nothing silly about king arthur. i agree, and you will wear that outfit on your new show. only if you come to do the doogie. it is the dougie. okay. what do you make of julian assange and the new wikileaks uproar that has developed? well, for any journalist, it is a fascinating story, because i have been in the newspaper game most all of my life, and i m sort of torn, because part of me wants to think that this guy is putting out there information that ought to be made public, that he is bringing big countries and companies and corporations to account. and journalists at their heart believe in accountability.
demanding that the president make these documents available to us. if the new york times and dare spiegel have them, and wikileaks have them, why can t we see it? because it says that the secretary of state hillary clinton can give you access. have you called her or asked her? we have asked, but i have not spoken to her personally. maybe a good idea, because she might be sensitive as a former legislature herself. well, the thing is, wolf, this is not partisan issue. it is bipartisan and everybody wants to know what is on the documents. are you as shocked as i am that only 60% of the defense department computers according to defense department have upgraded the software to allow them to know that someone is downloading tens of thousands of copies of sensitive information. i was shocked yesterday when we were briefed in the committee both in terms of the sloppiness in terms of which the original system was put together or the
government can go through some cyber activity and stop the servers? well, we have great cyber people, but from what we can tell, wikileaks is pretty good at protecting the data they have, and if there is a cyber attack, this stuff will be released somewhere else, and lit get out. we have a letter that you wrote to the secretary of state hillary clinton and also to the director of national intelligence saying that you want to know what is going on and you are not getting access to information that the new york times or al jazeera or others have. or 500,000 people in the military have. yeah, we d like to know what is in these documents, and what is coming down the pike? what vulnerabilities are there, and what security issues may arise? why won t they share it with you, the ranking member of the intelligence committee? they say they won t share it, because it is executive privilege and part of the documents of the discourse of the executive branch, so they will not provide it t
the president has named a new point man to try to stop damaging leaks of secrets. the appointment of russell travers says that they are taking the leaks of wikileaks more seriously than ever after the latest document dump. we are joined now by the president s senior adviser david axelrod. thank you for coming in. good to be here. i want to talk to you about the wikileaks document dump, and peter king who is the incoming chairman of the homeland committee in the house, and i spoke the him today, and he blasted the obama s administration handingliling of crisis. and this is what he says. i have no evidence that they have done anything. yesterday, eric holder, i didn t sense any note of anxiety, and any intensity. he is saying, you know, they are looking into it, and exploring,
