which hunt. over the last five weeks that man, rod rosenstein, has risen from relative obscurity and been thrust into a key role in the unfolding investigation. it was rosenstein who the president asked to draft that now infamous memo that served as the pretense to fire former fbi director james comey last month. however, it wasn t long before trumconfessed that rosenstein s recommendation had thing to do with the firing. regardless of recommendation i was going to fire comey knowing there was no good time to do it. and, in fact, when i decided to just do it, i said to myself, i said, you know, this russia thing with trump and russia, is a made up story. days after that admission that rosenstein appointed robert mueller as special counsel to pick up the trump/russia investigation where comey left off. with talk that the president is considering ways to oust mueller as special counsel rosenstein is the only person who stands in
for the sake of the president and the presidency. we ve got to be able to resolve this issue long-term and get the fax out. one big question, why top trump adviser and son-in-law jared kushner according to a source discussed with russia s ambassador setting up a secret channel for communications with the trump transition team. ands a reported by the washington post, why such a channel would be housed in russian diplomatic facilities. and former campaign adviser carter page also under scrutiny from whom trump distanced himself in february. i don t think i ve ever spoken to him. i don t think i ve ever met him. reporter: today was the subject of trump s supports in tweets after page reveal head might not be asked to publicly testify. so now it is reported the democrats which have excoriated carter page about russia don t want him to testify. he blows away their case against him and now wants to clear his name by showing the false or misleading testimony by james comey, john brenn
white house now. what can you tell us? reporter: let s just breakdown what happened, chris. first, the president tweeted on friday that he was under investigation. let me remind our viewers of that tweet. he tweeted out, i am being investigated for firing the fbi director by the man who told me to fire the fbi director. which hunt. then you, of course, had his outside counsel, as you just played jay sekulow going on all of the sunday shows trying to say, look, the president wasn t confirming that he wasn t under investigation with that tweet. instead, he was referring to responding to a washington post report that said he was under investigation, effectively making the argument that the tweet is being taken out of context. you heard him also make the case that the president hasn t been alerted to the fact that he s under investigation.
that you wrote lately for the national review. president trump s fate happens based on things that happened before but also on his self-discipline going forward and i assume you re referring to the tweets. i ll let you expand on that. but my other question is, when you hear what sekulow had to say and then kellyanne conway goes on and denies that there s an investigation which makes you wonder if there s a witch hunt, who is the witch? why is the president so upset if it s not him? how much of this is him and how much of it is his staff, even if he s made mistakes and i think everybody can agree to the fact that he should stay off the twitter, especially when it comes to an ongoing investigation. what about the way his team has handled this and can anybody give himself-discipline going forward? well, who knows. there s a couple of things. when i talk about his conduct
