the clinton e-mail case because they say it was never closed. the batch of new e-mails was found during an fbi investigation in an unrelated case. director comey did not say what that case was, but law enforcement officials tell nbc news it involves former congressman anthony weiner. they were looking at whether weiner sent sexually explicit pictures to a minor. agents were looking at one of weiner s laptops. in that process, they found that his wife, long-time hillary clton aide huma abedin used the same computer to e-mail clinton s private e-mail server. the fbi has not yet examined this new batch of e-mail. it s not known whether these e-mails are the same already reviewed by the fbi or not. a full review of them not expected to be finished before election day. a former assistant attorney general general joins us right now.

like a front-runner and is not letting up. do i think he has the qualificati qualificatio qualifications? has he disqualified himself? yes. not just because of these scandals. he didn t have the qualifications when he was in congress. whether weiner drops out or not, this is still a game of getting into the democratic runoff. as weiner becomes less and less of a viable option, it opens the door for other candidates. it is interesting there. christine quinn may not want weiner to drop out. we ll explain here. one of those candidates trying to get into that runoff is bill thompson who in 2009 came within five points of beating mayor bloomberg despite being outspent by a whopping 14-1 margin. thompson rarely talks about race but on sunday, the former city comptroller and only african-american candidate in the race seized an opportunity to tie new york s stop and frisk laws to the trayvon martin case.
last month, maybe a lot in the last 24 hours. he is now only slightly ahead of bill de blasio and bill thompson who he we had on last night. christine quinn leads the pack. i would should v thought it would have been higher for her. when asked whether weiner should drop out, democrats are fairly evenly split, 43 to 47. it s 50-50 on this guy. michael, as you report this story for time, i m just wondering what is the story at this point? it seems to me that this guy as all kinds of problems. we re going to get into this, clinical problems and all that. new york s got a problem. they don t have a great list of candidates. he probably in terms of background is on par with some of the other candidates. but they don t have his problems. but yet they re willing to say the 1/6 of new yorkers, they can live with this guy as mayor. and the other candidates don t have his charisma and campaign skills either. i m not like joan and i m not ready to write him off completely. if nothing else, i co
americans to offer forgiveness. that is something we are going to see in the thorn weiner election, three quarters of african-americans are supporting him in part because there is that faith and forgiveness element but also because he is aggressively speaking to them. so, look, it s never just in a vacuum. bill clinton was able it to transcend his really egregious character problems, his, i think, consistent lying about a number of things, particularly about monica lewenski. a lot of people believe if you will lie to those closest to you in life, you are absolutely going to lie to your constituents. i promise you, new york city if you elect this guy, is he going to it lie to you fast and furiously. there is going to be no end to it they are going to get what they disoorve. bill: ladies, thanks very much. juliet huddy will have more on whether weiner will stay in the race upcoming. victoria jackson once a star on saturday night live. tea party member she will be here. dennis miller
