marginalized, they feel less alone. and we know also, that kids who haven t met or experience people who are different from them. who do so in the same space above also learn about those cultures, of those identities. we know that box bridge divides between people. we know book bans create them. and that ultimately is the big problem here. kids are not getting information that they literally have a supreme court right to have. there was a case in 1982, where the supreme court decided that based on the first amendment, kids have the right to receive information. i can t be removed from shelves. because of political reasons. yet here we are, with a state
column, congress can play a role here. that arizona case was based on a concept called preemtion, where the supreme court says look, congress has passed all these laws and there is no room for state enforcement. congress can change those laws and congress can create more of an expressed role for state enforcement. brian: you think the justice department would focus more on something that would be productive. lone star attempt to do with the federal government is not. you wrote a column today about something we discussed on the radio last week that is the attack at george washington university and the push to kick out kick out clarence thomas as a professor because of his stand on roe v. wade and this decision. it was repelled. what does it tell you? well, look, i m very proud of the university for standing with free speech. and academic freedom. but this was not the difficult case. it was extremely unlikely that the university would cancel a
than there is of them, and we are going to fight. i m very passionate about being pro life, and i m just here as an observer to see what the attitude is like and kind of witness history, because this is a huge deal, you know, the supreme court documents were leaked, and it s a big deal to see roe v wade potentially overturned. the leak apparently coming from here the supreme court. it could potentially overturn the landmark roe v wade ruling of 1973, which legalised abortion. but all this is still to be confirmed. abortion has been a divisive issue in the united states for almost half a century. the most recent opinion poll by the pew research center found 59% of us adults believed it should be legal in all or most cases, while 39% thought it should be illegal in most or all cases.
the numbers much smaller, in the thousands or so in the crowd, and very specific targeting reproductive rights, abortion rights, very focused on that and the supreme court s role in that matter rejecting, getting involved in the texas law, that law that bans abortion after six weeks, no exceptions for rape or incest and essentially deputizes citizens to sue doctors who do perform those abortions during that time, and so a lot of emotion, a lot of passion from this crowd, as it is becoming an extremely hot political issue. just take a listen. i m dressed up as the late supreme court justice ruth bader ginsburg, and i m here today for everything that women have fought for since 1973 when this law was first passed giving us the right to choose, and i m just curious what has changed in this time frame that makes our supreme court justices think that we have changed our minds about that. so we re hoping that they see us
