D214 Foundation donors generate record scholarship sum for 2021 grads

Spring is scholarship season for high school students. Converging as it does this year with hopeful signs of emerging from the pandemic, it also is cause for celebration as graduating seniors build their foundation for postsecondary success.
Through the generous gifts of donors, the District 214 Education Foundation (https://214foundation.org) is awarding nearly $90,000 in collegiate scholarships - a record amount - to more than 70 graduating seniors. The recipients represent every school in District 214, including its specialized schools.
Among the scholarship highlights are Redefining Ready! Awards, which require applicants to create 30-second videos (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5JCJFEpxOU) showing why they are more than a test score. The High School District 214 Board of Education honored nine individuals with the District’s Distinguished Service Awards. The awards are given annually to people who have made significant contributions to the District and its students. We could not do the work that we do in preparing students for future success without the support of community members who assist in so many different ways, said Board President Dan Petro in announcing the awards. While there is, unfortunately, no way to adequately recognize the contributions of all individuals, we are pleased to spotlight the work of these eight people who truly have gone above and beyond to assist in our mission.
