Transcripts For CSPAN3 FAA Reauthorization Act Implementation Hearing Part 1 20240713

Good morning. And i want to thank the witnesses for joining todays hearing on the implementation of the faa reauthorization act of 2018. One year ago, this committee wrote comprehensive Bipartisan Legislation to raise the bar on aviation safety, improve the flying experience for the traveling public, better prepare and diversify the aviation workforce and foster innovation in the u. S. Airspace. Todays hearing is a critical milestone in the subcommittees oversight work to ensure the timely implementation of the law in accordance with our intent and to address new challenges. Although the faa has made some progress on fulfilling the laws directives, ongoing implementation delays threaten the important work needed to advance u. S. Aviation and aerospace and maintain our global leadership. Our first panel of witnesses are dan ellwell, faas deputy administrator and joel savat. Mr. Elwell and zavt, i expect your testimony administrations efforts to swiftly implement last years law. I would

Often times pair tra pair para transit is late. They are back at the door saying if you dont get on now you will miss your ride. You have to call in and wait for three or four hours to get picked up. The other thing is the paratransit card that you get where you pay 18 for taxi vampers. Paratransit will match it so you have 90. The problem is if your paratransit card is empty you have to go to the off office. There is no online way to load the cars. They go to the office so they can acquire the paratransit card to get reduced tax fee. I think that paratransit needs looked into, it needs to be on time. It means to be more thoughtful about the patients. In an emergency you can book within less than 24 hours if you are going to your healthcare provider. I think the paratransit card should be able to load it online versus going to an office somewhere. You are saying and it struck me and tell me if this is wrong. The cash fare is 3 with the clipper card it is 2. 50, is that right . So i wil

Good evening. Okay. I am nicole, the director of the Mayors Office on disability. Thank you for inviting me here today. What i want to do is talk for a minute what our charge is and how we Work Together with s. F. M. T. A. There is a lot that we are focused on that is very positive and i dont want to move those thoughts but i want to take time to make you aware of some of the things we are also hearing and you will hear duplication from dianes comments. I think it is important that we are hearing from the same communities. I wanted to highlight some of those things. First of all, the charge of the Mayors Office on disability specifically is as the citys overall americans with disability act coordinator on behalf of the city. We work closely with our ada coordinators in the various city departments and s. F. M. T. A. Has a fairly robust team in s. F. M. T. A. Accessible services. We work closely with them on a number of initiatives. Many of the complaints and concerns that we hear from

Staff every time i want to reach them for something. It seems like a huge waste of resources. They could just respond and that would make life easier. I want to talk about the access of holly park, which is an important park to me. It has five entrances for ablebodied people and one for wheelchair users. That one requires me, once i get to the park, i have to go four city blocks around the park to get to the Wheelchair Accessible entrance. Then i have a go up a huge hill and another couple blocks just to get to the bathroom. So i could be at the park with the bathroom in sight, 100 feet away from me and i still have to go four blocks across the hill to get to the bathroom. That is crazy. I would love to get to this park and access it like able bodied people, without having a travel eight blocks to and from the nonaccessible entrance i live near. Also that park in 2013, my local monastery was killed by a park and rec worker driving a truck. I want to know if park and rec will make any s

Informed and something that everyone in the city supports, we couldnt implement it without changing state law either. Council member williams thank you. Long winded answer, but were with you. Council member williams just to clarify if i may, the city is engaged with California Public Utilities Commission on this, right . Yeah. I mean, its kind of a loaded plate there. Im not privy to those conversations, but i would say that the outcomes we have not had any different outcomes. Cochair senhaux i dont have a question, but a quick comment because the rules apply to me, too. I appreciate with regards to enforcement youre listening to our concerns around driver behavior. And second thing youre doing education awareness around, you know, safety rules for people on scooters, you know, safe streets. And on bikes. Because we all share the rightofway, we all share the sidewalks and everybody has to be respectable. We all have to share these areas. So people with disabilities and, you know, senio
