Council Hears Details of Community Pandemic Help Through One Haverhill Fund, Weekend Food Drive

United Way Vice President Sarah Link told the Haverhill City Council on Tuesday the nonprofit program, developed by community leaders, the Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Massachusetts and others has been instrumental over the past year in helping individuals and other charitable organizations. “We have this vibrant nonprofit network that we’ve built to really make sure that folks are having their needs met and are finding resources and also to support our food pantries,” she said.

Haverhill Girls Softball League Now Registering Ages 5 to 14 for Spring Season

The Haverhill Girls Softball League is now registering girls from ages 5 to 14 for its spring season. Divisions include Little Ladies U6 for ages 5 and 6, Little Ladies U8 for ages 7 and 8, 10U Division for ages 8-10, 12U Division for ages 11 and 12 and 14U Division for ages 13 and 14. The softball season runs from late April through mid-June. Those interested may register online at HaverhillGirlsSoftball.org. Deadline is next Sunday, March 14. Judge Holds Man Charged with Driving Into Women, Stabbing Woman s Neck and Eyes

The 23-year-old man charged in Wednesday’s attack on his neighbors allegedly ran down a mother and pregnant daughter ages 54 and 26 with his car, got out to stab the older woman in the neck and tried to stab out her eyes. Jake T. Kavanaugh, of 15 Fairview Farm Road, Haverhill, was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing at his arraignment Thursday in Haverhill District Court. First Justice Cesar A. Archilla also ordered a mental health evaluation at Bridgewater State Hospital and called for Kavanaugh to return to court Tuesday, March 23. Kavanaugh pleaded not guilty to armed assault to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, mayhem and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
