Recycling is our passion, she said. It s all about protecting the environment and the beautiful Great Barrier Reef. Recyclable Regatta co-ordinator Andrea Farley said it was a great chance to reuse items that reflected the lifestyle in Airlie Beach. The festival will be held August 5-8 and the Recyclable Regatta is one of the feature attractions of the festival each year. The rafts must be made out of recyclable materials but any type of oar or paddle could be used. The event is open to all ages and provides great family fun. There can be a maximum of three people in each crew.
He took out the North Brisbane Speedway Masters, Phil Crump Solo International and South Australian Solo Championships in the past three months alone.
He also just topped the podium in round one of the Darcy Ward Speedway Promotions series in Brisbane at the weekend.
Douglas said the fast Bowen track suited his style and he was excited to be racing in the north again.
“The team always prepare the track well and the crowd is nice and loud, which as riders, we love to hear,” he said. Douglas placed second in the 2020 Queensland Solo Championships at the track and is hoping to go one better this time.
Mr Hinchliffe said events gave an important tourism boost as they encouraged visitors to stay, explore and spend money in the Whitsunday and Mackay region.
More than $480,000 is being invested by the State Government in 23 destination events across nine regions to support Queensland’s COVID-19 economic recovery.
“We know the global COVID-19 pandemic has hit Queensland’s tourism industry hard,” Mr Hinchliffe said.
“This round of the Queensland Destination Events Program is another important step in helping local communities to recover and supporting Queensland tourism to rebuild better.”
“With an investment across nine regions in this round, there’s a festival, show or sporting event to entertain, fascinate or challenge Queenslanders and visitors for every month from May to November.”
Tourism Whitsundays chief executive officer Tash Wheeler said she was thrilled to see the return of Airlie Beach Race Week in 2021.
“The Whitsundays is the heart of sailing and this event is a great reminder of just how premier sailing is at this time of year,” she said.
“Airlie Beach Race Week is an iconic event on the Australian sailing calendar, complemented by a great array of onshore events throughout the week.
“It was one of the few events to run in the Whitsundays in 2020, so it is fantastic to see these events evolving post-COVID.”
Whitsunday Sailing Club event chairman Ross Chisholm is also looking forward to the event, which is due to be held from August 12 to 19.
As part of this year s festival planning, we are introducing a volunteer mentoring program, she said. That will allow the new volunteers to learn a variety of new skills from the more experienced committee members. If you are new to town, this would be a great way to meet people and become involved in the community. The four-day festival will celebrate its 21st anniversary this year. Previous festival favourites, including the Family Fun Day, Recyclable Regatta and Comedy Gala, will be back this year but the committee is looking for fresh events to be added to the program and needs new volunteers to be involved.
