i m doing very well with evangelicals. and i spend a lot of time with evangelicals. i must tell you, many evangelicals feel the way mike do. many do. they feel that president obama has not been good with christianity. he s stopping religious freedom to an extent. they feel very hurt by the president. maybe that s the best word, or disappointed by the president, having to do with christianity. mike is expressing himself. i see that when i m out on the trail and i m meeting with evangelicals. i m leading every poll in iowa, everywhere, with evangelicals. they feel very disappointed by the president what mike is saying is not surprising for me to hear. and it s a very strong statement. it is. in making speeches to thousands of evangelicals,
they kill americans. to close gitmo right now just when we ve had more alerts and more terrorism throughout the world is really ridiculous, and the most dishonest thing about this i find from obama is the fact that he says it costs too much. i mean here say president that has spent more money, borrowed more money than any other president before him, and now all of a sudden when it comes to the safety of americans, he is saying the cost is too high. bruce, to what mike said the fact remains, the idea that gitmo is recruiting tool falls apart because terrorists were committing terrorist acts before gitmo was launched. that kind of falls apart. what do you think? gitmo was always a reminder to me of the bush-cheney era of torture and whatever. it just seems that it should be time to shut it down and move on.
came in at 2.5%. why? faster growth in private sector. that is exactly what happened when bill clinton was president. i listened to n.p.r. most of the moment and they talk about the dire consequences of the government shutdown, they expect a terrible jobs report and the government shutdown. it didn t happen. what mike is referring to, i went and did a web search. thousands of news stories said the government shutdown would hurt the u.s. economy and it would shave nearly percentage point off of the g.d.p. growth. it didn t. i did not do that. g.d.p. growth is up at 2.8%. rich is right, we need to grow to 3.5 to 4%. i m thinking we are in the united states of amnesia right now. why are we so dependent on what the government does in we have been through decades before of crisis. where the u.s. economy has come out of it. because the sector has stepped up to the plate. 212,000 jobs created by
economic action $6 billion of government i don t understand why that is funny. what is the point you re making? got shutdown and people plan employment figures for the next month this is relevant? the point wait, wait, wait. rick. you ask question. give us a chance to answer. rick, the point is, mike, we had g.d. figures this week that were up a little bit. despite the sequester and the shutdown. it looks like the economy can work without the big government. you are right. we re taking a page from bill clinton play book who shrunk it before the overall economy. before the shutdown the expectcation was that the economy would grow by 1.8% in the third quarter. now they are saying 2.8% growth. we saw the same thing in the sequester, expecting the growth of 2.5% in the quarter. excuse me, 1.2%.
