Cool $800,000 for highway reseal
Motorists might have noticed that a large chunk of Hibiscus Coast Highway, from East Coast Road up Silverdale Hill, has just been resealed – it’s now a smoother ride up to the Whangaparaoa Road turn off.
Auckland Transport (AT) advises that the estimated cost for all the work involved is just over $800,000. The resealing is part of an annual programme designed to ensure a good standard of performance for the very heavy use that this road receives. It includes repair of any pavement failures.
AT says while residential roads are largely chip-sealed (often to the frustration of residents who might previously have had a smooth seal), major corridors need to be maintained with the higher quality seal and therein lies the cost.
