Taranaki s Paige Hareb in action at the Surfing New Zealand National Championships at Piha Beach in January.
Paige Hareb and Saffi Vette will face a record field of women at the World Surfing Games as they attempt to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics. However, the Kiwi duo won’t have to overcome all the 120 other women competitors to grab one of the two available places for women in the New Zealand team for Tokyo – nor will they necessarily need a top-10 finish. Some of their competition in El Salvador, starting on Sunday (NZ time), have already qualified to represent their respective nations in Tokyo in July, so Hareb and Vette’s ultimate aim is to be among the top seven unqualified surfers in the women’s field.
