Good monday morning to you. Disaster looms over the nations tallest dam. Almost 190,000 people have been ordered to evacuate the areas downstream from the oroville dam in california. Authorities say that unexpected erosion in an emergency spillway threatens to unleash uncontrolled floodwaters from the dams massive reservoir. The officials have been releasing controlled amounts of water through another spillway to prevent further erosion. They plan to drop large rocks from helicopters into the spillway to help stop it. 70 miles south of the oroville dam, the states capital, californias governor issued an emergency order to help coordinate the responding teams. Theyre preparing for incoming storms that could affect this complex and rapidly changing situation. Well have updates throughout the day here on nbc.
