The High Court in Makhanda has stated that Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula and his the Eastern Cape MEC for Transport, Community Safety, and Liaison, have "consistently failed"to respond to various requests for intervention from Intercape.

The Makhanda high court has ordered transport minister Fikile Mbalula and MEC Xolile Nqatha to step up and meet their legal obligations to provide for the safety and security of violence-besieged long-haul bus operators and their passengers. This could include taking “extraordinary measures” provided for in legislation which allows Nqatha to apply emergency steps to curb acts of violence in the taxi industry.
