Take a hike into terror with the Pittsburgh-shot horror film The Boonies

Andreas O’Rourke (right) and Krista Graham (left) in The Boonies Filmmaking is hard work, especially when your movie involves both hiking in the wilderness and escaping murderous backwood cannibals. Add in a low budget, and you have The Boonies, a locally shot horror film, which will be out on streaming and VOD platforms on April 20. Directed by Lance Parkin, who co-wrote the film with his creative partner Matt Schultz, the film follows a group of friends who must fight for their lives after crossing paths with a group of flesh-eating killers during a hike in the Appalachian woods. The film was shot in 2019 in the Pittsburgh, Johnstown, and Somerset areas.

We spoke with the Crew on Saturday to learn about how they did it and how you can watch. A Crew of people from the Johnstown and Ebensburg area wrote, shot, and produced their very own Movie and it’s coming to the Westwood Plaza Theatre this week. This new horror film called “The Boonies” was produced by people from the boonies. Dave McMillan & Brian Balog, Producers of “The Boonies” saying: “We all are familiar with woods, or ‘the boonies.’ That’s part of our childhood.”
