HOUSTON A welder claims he suffered serious back and neck injuries due to repeated lifting and carrying of steel plates while working aboard a vessel.
Alberto Camarillo filed a complaint May 11 in Harris County District Court against Westport Orange Shipyard LLC, Kirby Corporation and Kirby Inland Marine LP alleging negligence.
According to Camarillo s complaint, he was working as a welder for Westport at its shipyard in Orange. He claims while working on a vessel which was owned by Kirby, he had to lift and carry steel plates repetitively and did not have proper safety equipment or personnel which caused him to injure his back and neck. Carmarillo alleges he has required extensive and ongoing medical treatment for his injuries and that Westport was a non-subscriber under the Texas Workers Compensation Act.
