It will be a beautiful day in the New Wilmington neighborhood on Saturday, May 4, when actor David Newell—best known as Speedy Deliveryman Mr. McFeely from Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood—stops by as part of Westminster College’s and the New Wilmington Rotary Club’s Peace in Our Community Day.
Faculty members from Westminster College’s School of Communication judged entries in this year’s Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Festival of Media Arts.
Westminster College student Bethany Edwards earned an individual Drinko Center for Undergraduate Research grant to produce a short film “Another World.”
Edwards, a senior double majoring in creative media production and strategic communication and social media from Carnegie, Pa., used the grant to fund on-set production, character costumes and set design pieces for the film.
“‘Another World’ is about the importance of storytelling and how it affects people’s lives,” said Edwards. During high school Edwards decided she wanted to explore a career in film and had the idea for a script about a woman meeting her favorite fictional characters. Runners and walkers of the event—which was sponsored by Bags & Blessings, a non-profit charity established to help bring hope and love to those undergoing cancer treatments—shared with students their stories about why they were participating.
The recorded interviews will be shared with Bags & Blessings for use on social media.
“I thought this experience was very heartwarming and it was super interesting to hear from the participants of the race. Hearing stories of what some of those people have overcome and faced in their lives is truly amazing,” said Adam Coppins, a junior environmental studies major from Lewiston, N.Y.
