the affordable care act through congress. former senator max baucus related that story to huff post. quote, he s a westerner. he gets to the point. he doesn t mince words and he hangs up on you. once the president said, whoo, he hung up on me! and his adviser said, look, he hangs up on everybody. and despite as coming across as soft spokesman in public, reid and his team were never one to shy away from a fight. i love this story from 2008 that zach carter played in politico, of trying to get reaction from using a quote from reid from grover norquist as bait. quote, when i presented the quote to reid s spokesperson, jim manley, he replied, well, zach carter, you tell grover n y once told to go f himself and his response is perhaps the best
nothing of separations downtown and rampant crime. it is mind-boggling. as a westerner i love the city. let me share this, from democratic representative tara simmons who said this in a statement, quote, i believe in a society that believes in the power of redemption. murder is murder no matter where the bullet comes from but locking young people up and throwing away the key is not the answer. your response to that statement? our first convicted felon ever to hold a state representative office in washington state so the irony is thick. but it is mind-boggling. to understand the law you have to break down now works, murder in the first degree typically gets you 20 to 30 years in prison if convicted then there s an aggregate, 19 aggregate circumstances, things like of the murders committed during a rape or if you kill a police
miss toting bergh, thank you for coming with us tonight. it is lovely to be here, rachel, after a long day. i did want to say one thing to you about ronald reagan and joe biden. these are two men who they don t, generally, make promises that they do not believe and. and reagan actually believed in the idea and when he, just before he made a bunch of his young aides tried to talk him out of it and they said, you should name scalia, somebody like that. not use your first, and possibly only, nomination to this woman that we don t know that much about. and he said, i like her. she is a westerner. i like her ethics. i like the way she is. and i will name her.
rachel, after a long day for those of us who cover the court. i did want to say one thing about ronald reagan and joe biden. these are two men who have some things in common. they don t generally make promises that they don t believe in. and reagan actually believed in the idea of appointing a woman to the court. and just before he made the promise, a bunch of his young age tried to talk to him out of it and you should name scalia or somebody like that, and not use your first and, you know, you don t know if youyo have any mo nominations, to choose this woman that we don t know that much about. and he said, i like her, either she s a westerner, i like her ethics, i likes the way she is and i m going to name her. i made a pledge and i m going to live by it. in terms of this decision
they have always excelled since the times of lennon and even before. propaganda, whether it is the written word or whether, in this most recent case, it is actually, you know, video types of things. but the thing that concerns me most, um, is the line that the russians putut there with regard to russians in ukraine. putin has, in the past, said things like, well, wherever there are russians, there is russia. and so, what he has a tendency to do is to try to justify to the west, which if you are a westerner, you kind of think, well, maybe he s got a point here. um, and he is going to say things like, you know, the russians that live in the eastern part of ukraine it s a genocide by this nazi regime in kyiv. and so, we need to go in there. we need to attack to to pre protect our russian brothers and sisters and that is an escalation, that is a reason that he wants the west to believe why he can go in. gives him the right, essentially, the obligation some would say to go and do this.
