Whitman County is likely to remain under Washington Governor Jay Inslee’s phase 2 pandemic restrictions. Inslee is requiring that counties meet both of his metrics to move forward to less restrictive phase 3.  Counties that meet one of his metrics stay under their current restrictions.  Counties that fail both metrics get moved to heavier restrictions. Whitman County appears to have met Inslee’s coronavirus hospitalization metric to remain in phase 2.  State officials have told local public health officials that the metric is based on new coronavirus hospitalizations between April 14 th and the 20th.  Whitman County Public Health reported just one new coronavirus hospitalization during that time.  Six or more new coronavirus hospitalizations during that week would send Whitman County to Inslee’s more restrictive phase 1 mandates.  The hospitalization data is still be reconciled by state public health officials for final evaluation.
