Man pleads guilty in fentanyl death of Kalamazoo resident file photo and last updated 2021-01-14 15:53:32-05 LANSING, Mich. — 34-year-old Keenan Jermaine Dunigan pleaded guilty for distributing a lethal dose of fentanyl to a Kalamazoo resident, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Western District of Michigan. They say the victim was found dead on Jan. 14, 2020, adding that Kalamazoo police recovered trace amounts of heroin. We’re told Michigan State Police arrested Dunigan several hours before on outstanding warrants after absconding from bond in Sept. 2019. Following an investigation conducted by the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, the Portage Police Department and the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement team, it was determined that Dunigan had an active drug operation for a number of months before the victim was found dead, according to the attorney’s office. Grand Rapids physician sentenced for prescribing illegal opioids Copyright 2021 by Getty Images Getty Images By: FOX 17 and last updated 2021-01-12 16:54:22-05 GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Dr. Richard Samuel Piazza, D.O., has been sentenced to 71 months behind bars for writing up illegal opioid prescriptions, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Western District of Michigan. Judge Janet T. Neff, who handed down the sentence, also sentenced Piazza to three years of supervised release, according to the national attorney’s office. “Dr. Piazza stands convicted of the same offenses we charge against street corner drug dealers,” says U.S. Attorney Andrew Birge. “Those who feed the opioid crisis by writing prescriptions for no legitimate medical purpose deserve to be treated this way under the law.”
