The Westerly-Pawcatuck Veterans Board of Control has announced that it will hold its annual Memorial Day celebration with a ceremony, guest speaker, and light lunch at VFW Post 1265, 160 South Broad St., Pawcatuck, on Monday, May 31, at 10 a.m.
The event will observe COVID-19 pandemic safety regulations and social distancing guidelines. Members of the public are welcome to attend. Westerly An accident involving a pickup truck and a motorcycle Saturday evening left one person dead, police say, and another person seriously injured.
The accident occurred shortly before 7:10 p.m. at Shore and Langworthy roads, police said in a news release issued late Saturday. Westerly police, Westerly Ambulance and Dunns Corners firefighters responded to the scene.
Arriving officers found a male and female, both of whom had been on the motorcycle, with serious injuries and provided emergency first aid until other first responders arrived, the release said.
The male was transported to Westerly Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The female was transported to the parking lot of the Walmart in Westerly, where a Life Star helicopter picked her up and transported her to R.I. Hospital Trauma Center.
