Davidson County teacher s son creates scholarship in her memory at Westchester Country Day School

The Dispatch Former Westchester Country Day School student and Davidson County resident Aubrey A. Rothrock III has made a $250,000 gift to endow a permanent scholarship to his alma mater that will honor the memory of his mother, a former trustee and teacher at the school. The Elizabeth L. Rothrock Scholarship for Excellence in English is named in memory of Elizabeth Betty Rothrock. She was an active member of the WCDS community serving as a faculty member, trustee, parent and volunteer in the 1980s and 1990s. She had a passion for English and American literature and the classics, teaching from 1989-97.

Westchester Country Day School arts center initiative, contribution

The Dispatch Westchester Country Day School has launched a new phase in a capital campaign for campus growth. This school, in Davidson County, received its single largest commitment from an alumnus with long-standing ties to the school. David Congdon, a 1974 Westchester graduate, and his wife, Helen, have made a $3 million leadership commitment to the Westchester Forward Campaign for the Arts, a $12 million initiative to build an arts center at the heart of campus and fund its operations. After graduating from Westchester, Congdon received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from UNC Wilmington and began his career at Old Dominion Freight Line, which is in Davidson County and was founded by his grandparents in 1934. He worked in various positions, including dock worker, truck driver, mechanic and various executive roles, and in 2008 was named CEO of the company, where he now serves as executive chairman. He is also a Westchester past parent and now grandparent.
