Warren Beck could have easily been an attorney with the hours he spent poring over documents and leasing contracts. Or he could have been a general contractor with the knack he had for pulling people together for a task.
His leadership got the jobs done. Business partners and friends said Beck was thoughtful and detail-oriented as he approached developments, ready with a breadth of consumer knowledge and patience to see projects through.

Commercial real estate developer Warren Beck, best known for building tony shopping center Galleria in Edina, died Monday after a three-year battle with lung cancer. He was 75.
Beck leaves a legacy of shopping centers and hotels that helped shape the Twin Cities in particular, the west metro. Key retail projects he spearheaded include Westbrook Mall in Brooklyn Center, Burnside Plaza in Burnsville, Bonaventure in Minnetonka, and Centennial Lakes Plaza in Edina. But Beck’s crowning career achievement and the project he and his family held closest was Galleria, the France Avenue mall he built in 1974.

A 28-year-old man faces multiple charges in a hit and run that badly injured a couple who were walking near Westbrook Mall in southwest Calgary last December.

CALGARY A man and a woman face multiple charges in regards to the robbery of a woman in her 70s that took place last month. The incident occurred just before 10:30 a.m. on Nov.24, when the woman was trying to cross eastbound at the corner of 37 Street and Bow Trail S.W. There, the man and woman approached from behind. The man is alleged to have hit her over the head, causing her to fall. The suspects took her purse and ran in the direction of Westbrook Mall, followed by a Good Samaritan, who was able to retain the woman s purse and return it to her, with the money missing.
