WEST Yorkshire Police is intensifying efforts to tackle knife crime as part of a national week of action.  Operation Sceptre will look at key themes such as prevention and education, and officers will carry out targeted operations alongside partner agencies. Operation Sceptre brings a nationwide focus to knife crime and with coronavirus restrictions easing, it’s more important than ever that forces are brought together to remind the public that police are targeting serious violence.  The week of action will give forces the opportunity to build on existing activity, highlighting at a national level the key prevention and engagement work taking place locally.

Project aiming to tackle violence and crime rolled out in West Yorkshire schools

SCHOOL pupils across West Yorkshire are being encouraged to stay on the right path with the help of a project led by the Leeds United Foundation. Funded through the West Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit (VRU), the Positive Choices project aims to deter young people away from violence and crime. As part of the project, a video recording has been created containing personal messages from top sports personalities , leaders say, as well as from people who have been victims of violent crime. Delivered across the county’s schools in a series of sessions, it covers a number of important issues, including knife crime, drugs, gang affiliation and negative relationships .

West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Mark Burns-Williamson has spoken about a new campaign to help people recognise signs of child exploitation WEST Yorkshire Police have launched a new campaign to educate parents about the signs of Child Criminal Exploitation (CCE) and to encourage people to come forward. CCE involves a number of types of crimes which can include drugs, County Lines, the carrying of weapons, money muling and serious acquisitive crime. Stats from November 2020 showed there were a total a 436 victims of CCE recorded in West Yorkshire. Most of these victims were male and aged between 13 and 18 years old.
