Storm slams West Tennessee with strong winds, causing outages, damage

WBBJ TV May 6, 2021 JACKSON, Tenn. A line of storms with high winds raked across West Tennessee Thursday afternoon. The damage left behind included downed trees on power lines and roofs, resulting in numerous power outages across multiple utility providers. One man in the Three Way area came home to a massive tree that had fallen on power lines in his neighborhood, leaving he and his neighbors without power. Alan Yates says he wasn’t home when the storm hit, but got a call from his son. “It was about 3:30 this afternoon. I was at work and my son called and said, ‘Dad we’re having a bad storm at the house and the tree in the front yard is gone, ” Yates said.

West Tennessee Strawberry Festival kicks off with annual prayer breakfast

WBBJ TV May 3, 2021 HUMBOLDT, Tenn. Monday morning’s prayer breakfast was the kick start to Humboldt’s biggest week of the year: the 83rd West Tennessee Strawberry Festival. “My hope is just as a community we say, ‘Hey! It’s great to be together.’ It’s great to celebrate the good things in our community, and to be united in purpose in that way,” said Union University president Dr. Dub Oliver. Oliver spoke at the prayer breakfast this year. “I just wanted to encourage them about the fact that Jesus enjoys feasts as evidence by his involvement in the wedding feast in Cana in Galilee,” Oliver said.
