The River Stour at Clare Castle Country Park - Credit: Rachel Edge With warmer weather on the horizon, why not head out to one of these scenic Suffolk spots for a picnic this summer?  Holywells Park in Ipswich - Credit: Archant Holywells Park, Ipswich   Spread across 67 acres of stunning greenery, this historic park is handily located just on the outskirts of Ipswich’s town centre – making it a prime meeting spot for you and your bubble.   As well as acres of lush grass to relax on, the park also has a walled garden, a number of sheltered picnic areas, a bowling green, and a state-of-the-art children’s play area.

Heritage consultant Alan Baxter, who ran West Stow for the district council for many years, said not too many people knew about Mr Brown’s link with West Stow.  Alan Baxter ran West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village and Moyse s Hall Museum for many years. Here he is pictured at West Stow in 2018 as part of the Ring Quest event - Credit: Archant He said: “In Suffolk West Stow has always been about the people and Sutton Hoo has always been about the kings.  “It [the link] is very relevant because Basil Brown did various digs at West Stow. But the most important thing to say is the chap who actually excavated West Stow [Anglo-Saxon village] is Dr Stanley West.”
