Vincent Lucchese, 23, of Staten Island was shoveling near a conveyor belt and suffered a fatal shock from a steel-framed rock crushing machine at 200 Bloomfield Ave. near the West Shore Expressway about 1:40 p.m., according to the Department of Buildings.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Authorities responded to a crash in Woodrow near the West Shore Expressway on Thursday morning.
A person is expected to recover from injuries suffered in the incident in the vicinity of Veterans Road West and Zebra Place, according to a spokesman for the NYPD.
The front of a blue sedan sustained serious damage and airbags were deployed. The front of the car is impaled on the back of a truck cab at that location.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Westbound drivers on Staten Island Expressway should be in for a smoother ride thanks to a new auxiliary lane.
On Thursday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the completion of a new westbound auxiliary lane on the Staten Island Expressway, between the northbound Martin Luther King Jr. Expressway entrance ramp and the South Avenue exit ramp.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Since we all know that Travis is famous for the Fourth of July parade, we have chosen a few vintage “then” photos not usually in the forefront.
A little history: Travis was a battle site during the Battle of Staten Island, and ferries ran from Travis in 1757 and were part of Philadelphia and New York City’s main route via the Port Richmond Ferry for decades.
