Summer school underway elementary, middle school students in West Salem
Final COVID-19 safety plans for the start of the full school year will be announced next month.

Monday, the district started summer school programming for elementary and middle school students.
Masking is optional.
And anyone showing signs of COVID-19 should stay home.
Even with some changes in place district leaders say it is nice to have the educational process feel more like normal.
“It’s kind of nice to, knowing that we’re not fully back to normal, but we’re getting close to that point. And getting to see our kids smiling faces as they walked into the building, It was just a tremendous thing this morning,” said West Salem School District superintendent Ryan Reiber.

But the West Salem School District was notably absent.
The most effective way to end this pandemic is to get everyone vaccinated as soon as possible.
“So all of our kids can be back in school and get that hands-on education and face-to-face education that everybody wants,” West Salem School District superintendent Ryan Rieber said.
West Salem had the option to participate in a vaccination site run by the county last week.
“We knew that we had this opportunity,” Rieber said.
To instead run a private clinic of their own Wednesday.
