There were strong words from community activists about a plan to move the O'Bryant School of Mathematics and Science from its location in Roxbury to a new building in West Roxbury.
While they acknowledged the need for more space, O'Bryant parents and teachers raised concerns about potential consequences, like a decline in diversity, the disruption of community partnerships, and longer commutes.
At the School Committee meeting Wednesday evening, members questioned Skipper about the city’s proposal for the O’Bryant, focusing in particular on the community engagement process in developing the plan and its overall lack of details.
Expanding educational opportunities is good. So is letting parents, students, teachers and neighborhood leaders weigh in on such major "generational change."
