Monkeys trapped Updated: Updated: Share Article Monkeys trapped by personnel of the Forest Department in Thanjavur on Monday.   Officials of the Forest Department have trapped 20 monkeys that were found roaming around in Thanjavur town. The move comes two days after Thanjavur West Police received a complaint that an infant was killed by the animals in West Rampart area. Cages were placed at about half-a-dozen places along the moat in Thanjavur Corporation limits to capture the monkeys. A couple residing in the area had alleged that one of their eight-day-old twin daughters was killed after monkeys took the infant from their house and threw it in the moat.

According to reports, a group of monkeys entered a house located in Mela Alangam (West Rampart) near Thanjavur Palace by removing the tiles of the roof of the house and barged in. Further, monkeys entered the house and fled with the twin babies resting on a mat on the floor of the house who was born on February 6.

Father claims monkeys killed girl child Updated: Updated: Share Article AAA Personnel attached to the Thanjavur West police station are investigating the cause of death of an eight-day-old girl, reportedly taken away by some monkeys from a house in the West Rampart area in the town on Saturday. According to the police, they received a complaint from Raja of West Rampart, stating that some monkeys had taken away his twin daughters when his wife, Bhuvaneswari, had gone to the rest room. Bhuvaneswari, who gave birth to the twins a week ago at the Government Rajah Mirasdar Hospital, Thanjavur, found them missing when she returned. Subsequently, his wife raised an alarm and the neighbours rushed in and located one infant on the tiled roof of the house, where a monkey was also spotted.
