The Whiskey Rebellion is an event that included a violent protest due to an excise tax on whiskey. The government was in deep debt due to the Revolutionary War debts and Alexander Hamilton saw that there was a lot of money coming in from whiskey, so the government put a tax on whiskey which made the farmers in West Pennsylvania very upset. Not only did this tax create conflict with farmers, but it also created conflict with congress. Congress members spoke out on their disagreement with this tax and provided alternative taxes. The farmers got in angry mobs and went to tax collectors to start protesting against this tax. Washington was not going to tolerate this protesting, so he issued a proclamation law that made farmers obey this law. Even though everybody hated the tax, they just decided to pay it but this proclamation did not calm things.
