Bromsgrove District Housing Trust (bdht) has donated £3,000 to organisations including Primrose Hospice, which supports patients with life-limiting illnesses, Dodford Children’s Farm charity which provides local children with a countryside experience, and the Basement Project which offers a safe and secure environment for young people under 25 years old. Mark Robertson, chief executive at bdht said: “The Covid-19 pandemic has had a very real and lasting impact on individuals across the UK and has put an incredible amount of pressure on businesses which often depend on the generosity of others through fundraising activities.

Almost half of domestic abuse starts during pregnancy

STARTLING statistics about domestic abuse beginning during pregnancy have been validated by a charity that tackles in Worcestershire and surrounding counties. Research by the For Baby’s Sake Trust showed that more than half of people who had been in abusive homes as a child went on to report a partner behaving abusively in their adult lives. The charity surveyed more than 2,000 people last month and some 40 per cent said abuse had started to occur during pregnancy or in the first two years of a child’s life. West Mercia Women’s Aid, which runs three refuges and outreach services in Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Shropshire, acknowledged the correlation and suggested it could be explained by a baby changing the dynamics of a relationship.
