After the coronavirus pandemic, hotels and restaurants of Bokaro are seeing a steep fall in demand for chicken dishes, the ongoing bird flu scare dealing another blow to the hospitality industry that had only recently been allowed to resume services amid strict Covid safety protocols.
Local residents, who had just about begun visiting eateries, have stopped now. And those who are going to the restaurants, are showing a keen preference for vegetarian items even though no instance of bird flu has been detected in the district, according to the state animal husbandry department.

Bokaro: Restaurants and hotels, which were on the verge of recovering the losses incurred last year due to the Covid-induced lockdown, are staring at another lean period in the wake of bird flu scare. Many of them are recording a dip in sales as customers are giving chicken dishes a miss.
Amit Johar, who owns West Inn hotel here, said the sale of chicken items has dropped by 25% in the past few days. “The drop in sales has forced us to innovate and add more vegetarian items to our menu,” he added.
Vikram Shanan, owner of the popular Zaika resort and a host of other restaurants here, said, “Due to bird flu scare, the demand for chicken items has dropped by 50% and customers are opting for vegetarian food and even demanding fish. However, the demand for mutton has not gone up.”

Union Minister Amit Shah will start his two-day visit to the poll-bound state of West Bengal on Saturday. The visit comes on the back of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Suvendu Adhikari tendering his resignation from the West Bengal Legislative Assembly on Wednesday. He is all set to join the BJP.
It was also learned from sources that BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya spoke to Adhikari on Tuesday for about four minutes wishing him on his birthday.
