West Hills area speaks out on roads, planning

West Hills Neighborhood Association residents and two city councilors teamed up Thursday on a remote discussion of southwest Corvallis issues. Jan Napack (Ward 1) and Gabe Shepherd (Ward 4) answered questions from community members for 150 minutes, with infrastructure and development concerns dominating the discussion. Narrow and hilly West Hills Road, which slices west when Western Boulevard veers southwest to merge with Highway 34, came in for the harshest criticism. Residents say the road is failing now and yet numerous new developments have been proposed for the area. “This has to be addressed,” said Jon Polansky. “It’s the elephant in the room. We need to see some answers.”

Today Albany Visitors Association 33rd Annual Nighttime Magic Holiday Light Contest. This year’s theme is “Cherished Traditions in a New Light.” Pictures of entries are posted on the AVA Facebook page, and addresses are included for people to drive by. A holiday light drive is posted on the Albany Explorer app via Google Maps. Lights will be on at least 5 to 10 p.m. daily through at least Jan. 1. Albany Helping Hands Christmas trees, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., last day, AHH Woodlot, 5150 SE Santiam Highway; Mid-Willamette Family YMCA, 3201 Pacific Blvd. SW.; North Albany Road and Hickory Street, North Albany; the Party Store, 1230 Pacific Blvd. SE. Masks, social distancing and hand sanitizer required at lots.
