JLEN acquires battery storage project | 3 March 2021

3 March 2021 | 08:04am StockMarketWire.com - Infrastructure fund JLEN said it had acquired Gigabox South Road, which held the development rights to construct the West Gourdie project, a 50MW lithium-ion battery energy storage plant based in Dundee, UK. JLEN would invest up to £21.2 million in the project over the next 12-15 months. The West Gourdie project, which is fully consented and construction ready, was expected to reach energisation and start commercial operations in March 2022. The West Gourdie project will be connected to Scottish Hydro Electric Power Distribution plc s distribution network and has a 49.9MW import and export connection, the company said.

The acquisition will see JLEN invest up to £21.2m over the next 12-15 months. The West Gourdie lithium-ion battery project is fully consented and construction ready. It is expected to reach energisation and start commercial operations in March 2022. JLEN said the acquisition is its third investment into battery storage systems, adding to the two co-located batteries that the company owns as part of its run-of-river hydro portfolio. JLEN chairman Richard Morse said: “We are pleased to announce the further expansion of our interests in the energy storage market with our first grid-scale battery project. “We believe that plants such as this one, will play an important role in the decarbonisation agenda by providing balancing support to the local network and allowing for greater levels of renewable generation on the network.

A new Starbucks is due to open on Afton Way, just off the Kingsway beside Morrisons, on Valentine’s Day, February 14. Manager Steve Lough said the branch was being opened by Sean and Stephanie Geddes, of East Lothian-based Starbucks franchisee Burton and Speke.
