By City News Service May 12, 2021 LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The California Supreme Court refused today to hear the case of a homeless man who was sentenced to 26 years to life in state prison for strangling a 78-year-old woman in broad daylight on the patio of her Alhambra condominium. Milton Chavez, now 29, was convicted in June 2019 of first-degree murder, along with an allegation that he personally used a deadly and dangerous weapon shoelaces in the Feb. 15, 2017, killing of Moon-Yung Cheung. In a March 8 ruling upholding his conviction, a three-justice panel from California s 2nd District Court of Appeal found “overwhelming” circumstantial evidence of Chavez s guilt.
